Transformative email templates for positive candidate experiences

A poor candidate experience damages your brand. Negative sentiment is one thing, but what happens when sentiment spills into a scathing online review or social media post, actively discouraging friends and family from applying for your roles, or ultimately, candidate resentment; you lose them as customers.

It doesn’t take much for candidates to feel negatively about their experience during recruitment.

According to Jobvite, the leading cause (42%) of a negative candidate experience is the lack of response from an employer/recruiter.

In contrast - the leading cause of a positive candidate experience (58%) is great communication.

To help you improve your communication with candidates, I’ve written personalised automation emails that you can plug into your ATS and send. Engaging emails that read and feel like a caring human wrote them (and not an ATS robot).

What you get

In this Candidate Email series for HERO Employer Brands, you get 7 x email templates written in a warm and motivational tone of voice. Candidates are taken on a journey to better understand who you are as an employer and help them better determine fit before time is wasted on interviews.

You’ll be guided through ‘best practice’ candidate communication and recruitment. Each email includes instructions for use and options to further customise content with variations of expressions to help you make it your own.

Perfect for small businesses lacking recruitment experience and time to create an on-brand candidate journey.

You get email copy that covers these recruitment stages:

1.     Application received

2.     Applications closed > shortlisting begins

3.     Confirmation of interview

4.     First round rejection email

5.     Extra warm-and-fuzzy-more-about-us-while-you-prepare-for-your-interview stuff

6.     Offer of employment

7.     Post-interviews candidate rejection email + invitation to our talent community

A note on brand voice

The HERO brand archetype naturally suits not-for-profit, philanthropic businesses or those who are driven by corporate social responsibility because they are inspired to change the world and encourage triumph over adversity. As you can imagine with something called a ‘hero’, this archetype also suits athletic themed businesses, Nike being the most obvious example, as they take on the persona of a coach or personal trainer. ‘Never give up’ is the Hero mantra.

There are four brand voices included in this series, so before purchasing a campaign, I suggest you first get clear on your employer brand voice. It should be fairly consistent with your consumer brand voice (as they all blend into each other these days!). If you’re unsure, you can have a go at this quiz for a quick guide (note: not my quiz but I’ve based my Personas on these four archetypes).

The four brand voices in this series are:

  • Funky Phil for Jester / Spring / Creative Brands. Bright, fun, playful. Can be a trickster. e.g. MnMs

  • Sensible Susan for Sage / Summer / Supportive Brands. Inspiring, nurturing, knowledgeable. e.g. Google, Wall Street Journal

  • PT Pete for Hero / Autumn / Mastery Brands. #inspirational #youcandoit e.g. Nike

  • Sophisticated Sarah for Ruler / Winter / Prestigious Brands. Elite, structured, monochromatic. e.g. Tiffany

What are people saying about the templates?

Oh my gosh YES! We want to do the right thing by the candidates, but we’re incredibly short on time and resources to do a great job. But we're not going to come across as a silent, corporate, human-less company to all those who legitimately want to work with us. Recruitment comms is definitely not my zone of genius, so having these templates is such a relief!

These are great! Love the content and the "giving something back" / added value elements not just an outcome or confirmation of something.
